Get the most from Donut

Have you received your OTA update to Android 1.6 yet? If not, go to settings, about phone, system update. You may have just missed the notification. I just got mine today, but won’t be accepting the offer. I used the ROM resources in the DroidDog forums to grab my official T-Mobile update for rooted phones, but that’s not for everyone.

Regardless of how you get your Donut, you want to get as much out of it as possible, right? Well, Google sent out an email welcoming users to their new Android phone with a couple of great links included. One is for the official AndroidTips YouTube channel. Check it out!

i have a quick question. ok so i downloaded the htc hero keyboard off the web and installed it on my g1 and when i had the 1.5 software i never once had a problem with the keyboard but ever since installing 1.6 everytime i try to use the htc hero keyboard it forecloses. it even forcloses when im not in a program that requries texting. now ive tried everything from uninstalling the keyboard and putting a new zip file on my sd card and installing again. to even restoring my g1 to factory settings and trying to install the keyboard again but nothing work. now what i wanna know is did t-mobile or google put something in this update to keep you from downloading third party keyboards off the web and if so is there anyway i can bypass it without rooting? or could my zip file be currpted and if so do you know where i can get a working one. i really hate the default onscreen keyboard on the g1 and would love to have my hero keyboard back it was soo amazing. thanks in advance to anyone who can help me i would greatly appricate anything.

Well I know they didn't block third party keyboards because I'm using Better Keyboard with 1.6. I'll look into this. I know that some ROMS, like Cyanogen's, include the Sense keyboard, but i don't know how many different versions of the app are out there on their own. I had a problem with one once.

ok thanks because ive been looking and asking around and it seems like everyone who are on an unrooted g1 with a hero keyboard are having forcloses everytime they use the keyboard and i cant figure out why. so thanks i apricate it. cant wait till the keyboard will work again one day if any lol.

Is it me or was the phone used a Moto Sholes?

hey.. wasnt donut supposed to ship with gesture support?? i saw in the google I/O videos, the showed examples of the handwriting tool.. the drew on the screen to filter certain lists.. i was rly looking forward to this feature in donut, but now its just not there.. WHY??

If I understand correctly, Donut has gesture support that developer's can exploit when writing a program. I don't think the Android OS has any gesture controls defined, though I could be off here.

The browser did pinchy gestures in the Donut Crumbs Cyanogen builds, so...I kinda expected to see that. But nope.
