O.K., so you *can* use home replacements on Hero

I’ve had some people contact me to point out errors in my video, “Your Sprint HTC Hero questions answered – part 2.” Among them are links to photos of Hero(es) featuring “with Google” branding on the back (which I haven’t been able to get solid information on but will keep trying), testimonials of saving images from the browser via long-press (just how long of a press is that?), and the one I address here; home replacements on Hero. I have to admit I didn’t attempt this last one until I was called out. I trusted my experiences with an early review unit of the GSM model, which are no longer applicable. Mia culpa. As for the other issues, I don’t know what to tell you… yet.

Ok, as a UK owner of an HTC Hero, I did think it a bit strange when you said you couldn’t run Home replacements on the Hero. It flew past me, as I thought, well, perhaps the US Hero is different to mine… The question should not be, “Can the Hero runj Home replacements” but “Why would you want to run Home replacements on the HTC Hero!” All the replacements you show in your vid are awful! They are not a patch on HTC Sense. It’s an interesting excersise that ends up with you eventually going back to HTC Sense after working out the others aren’t worth it.

Keep up the good work :)

After trying the apps screen that was taking your hero so darn long, I found mine loaded the screen in maybe 2 seconds. Do you have a ton of apps downloaded and running currently?

Over on sprintusers.com some of the people have been reporting that the phones without “with google” printed on the back are EvDo rev. 0 phones. While myself who received a “with Google” phone it appears EvDo rev. A.
