Virtual memorial of 9/11 and the World Trade Center
Here’s one of likely thousands of applications for augmented reality that I had not anticipated. It’s a Virtual memorial of 9/11 and the World Trade Center. I guess these programs are good for something beyond stalking Brad Pitt. Can you imagine visiting the Great Pyramids of Giza and seeing a likeness of the original, polished limestone exterior? Or watching an always-available actors’ re-enactment of the Battle of Gettysburg while touring Pennsylvania? Cool stuff. The app is Wikitude from Mobilizy. It is available for iPhone and Android.

I watched this movie already a few times, and I still believe it is not only a milestone in mobile augmented reality, computer graphics, mobile handheld use, … it is also very moving!
