John,

It would be cook to see a war between an updated hero and the original. Some are experiencing performance boosts.

Keyboard lag has been taken care of... that was my biggest gripe with the phone... the lag would cause a longpress and make typing unbearable. Looks like all of my aps work... but I don't have any paid ones.. no broken links thus far

Maybe it's because I'm not in a constant work place or anything but I hardly email anyone, I do a lot of heavy texting, facebooking and twittering but that's about it, aside from making calls and having fun with the usual game apps on my phone and what not. I think once I get into the work world, it'll be different, btw I'm a sophomore in college so that's probably why I don't heavy email.

I still had the 100% awake time issue after the update as well. I had to actually do a hard reset and erase everything on the device. Once I did this and reset up my HERO the Awake time issue was fixed. I would try that. It is a pain but worth it.

After the software update all my copy-protected paid applications are missing from my download list and the Android Market.

I believe that the "Dialer application causing excess battery draw" is what caused the battery drain issue that we all dealt with. It was my understanding that the dialer was enabled from the messaging app which would not allow the unit to go to sleep.

I think a lot of peoples positive findings are just them being excited to have an update. My take on the update is, it fixes some of the known issues that were causing a great deal of pain for a large number of users. I am happy with the update from a break/fix standpoint. It solved the sleep problem, it claims to have improved the camera quality but I didn't notice any significant change. I'm not sure if it was there or not before but there is a firmware download setting in the privacy section that asks you if you would like to auto download firmware, prompt or do not download or alert you at all. If it existed before the update then I just never noticed it.

All in all, I'm content with this bug fix release but am eagerly awaiting an Android release update. Preferably 2.0 but at least 1.6 as some applications don't even display for 1.5 in the market.

All that said, if a well designed form factor, quality device comes out in the near future sporting a nice processor (the Droid was not that device for me), I would most likely ditch the Hero as my only real complaint is lag/speed. I do really enjoy the SenseUI though. SenseUI would be WONDERFUL on the right device!

wow! 15 hours and I still have half of my battery life left!! Before the update the battery would only last about 9 hours. This is an insane improvement. UI seems a little snappier as well. Really happy about the battery life though! Woohoo!
