I just got the behold today. And It was low battery. But when I turned it on, it doesn't go to the home screen. All I see is android. And I tried pressing buttons and it wouldn't do anything. It just stayed on that screen. Do I just leave it alone? Or do I do something? Or wait?
Hey John,U had been giving lot of negative feedback about the Behold II. I have been using it for a week now, switched from mytouch, other than the cube button and the cube, it is a pretty neat phone. Touchwiz UI isn't that bad, it does use little bit more memory than the generic UI, but to stay in the game every company has to come up with some creativity of their own. I am just putting my opinion out there.
Nice review and demo; I liked how you answered all the questions and went over features on the device. Good job.
I have the Behold 2. I usedyour advice and changed to Open Home & Better Keyboard. MUCH happier on both counts. Thanks. Question: Google SkyMap does NOT render vectors. Ie, the lines connecting the stars AND the horizon do NOT display. I can turn the layer on/off, it makes no difference. I saw Sky Map on a friend's Droid and it blew me away. Now I have a phone that can run it, but it doesn't properly render. Am I doing something wrong?
Would you please tell us how you got sense keyboard on there, or at least point us in the right direction
When a home replacement is used, does it change the Samsung camera interface or the haptic feedback when typing?
I'm in need of a new phone, and I want one that runs Android. This would be my first smart phone so I don't need the latest and greatest thing, and I'm going to have the no contract, monthly price with T Mobile so the upgrade price has no bearing on me. Would it make sense to get this phone? I've talked to several people at various different stores and the general consensus seemed to be that the Cliq isn't worth it. I even had one store rep tell me he tried to talk 3 people out of getting it before I came in. I don't mind waiting a month or 2 for a new phone if its going to be definitively better, but I haven't heard of any new android phones coming out for Tmobile. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Well, there is the issue of RAM. If it has 320 MB as many are reporting (I got a different answer from T-Mo) then Behold II does have a strong advantage - at least in the memory department.
T-Mobile announced today that existing customers who extend their contract can get it for $199. It does seem to have more RAM - I'm getting mixed answers. It's really a matter of personal preference You need to try one out. Test the home replacements and see what you think of them. I will post another Behold video before I send it off.
The Android Market has many home replacements. aHome, Openhome, Panda Home, dxTop, and others. They range from free to $3.99 or 4.99, I think. There are others that can be found on the net, like Sweeter Home. If you need to search the Market and don't have an Android device, check out http://www.androlib.com/ . As far as I know, it's a duplicate of the Android Market, though it may include Markets from multiple countries. Also see http://www.android.com/market/
i don't get people like you if you don't like it don't even look at the video or the post why would you even read this or see this video about the phone and diss?? i don't get it
can you completely remove the touchwiz ui? it would be nice to use open home without touchwiz wasting precious space. also is it possible to reassign the cube dedicated button? i've heard rumbling that this may be possible. btw the way the keypad is the best out right now, but it gets no love. i've used the sens and behold 2 and the beholds keypad is better, at least in my opinion.*sorry for double post*

With the price tag they're sticking on the X10 ($879) no one is going to be able to afford the thing! I agree with what everyone here is saying, though. This phone is honestly not worth the coverage. Android 1.x has been out for a year, and it's been covered over and over again. An Android 2.0 (droid) would be slightly more useful, but I don't think the changes from 1.x to 2.0 is enough to cover either, honestly. I can't imagine anyone actually sticking with the Samsung proprietary UI either. Some more in-depth reviews on some of the replacement homes would maybe be nice. I think I remember you doing a short video on them before, but I haven't been able to find the article with the search yet. Personally, if I were a T-Mo customer, I'd probably purchase the Cliq (for Android) or just wait and see what else is coming down the line. They don't have anything great lined up, though. If I were just wanting a phone on T-Mo I'd check out the Blackberry 9700.
Maybe just one video will suffice. Do we really need 3 videos on this device? Throw that in the garbage. Save it for the Sony Ericcsson phone.Clearly there are better device worth reviewing and bandwidth usage. This phone is crap other than the specs and screen. I'm sure someone at XDA will develop to root the phone and put a UI that is actually usable rather than that horrible Samsung UI that they keep on trying to push out.
i made so many mistakes on the last post... i meant to say i already tried the touchwiz/andriod UI but it sucks and i hope we can download them for free from android market.. sorry
i know seriously i just tried to touchwiz/android UI but it sucks.... i think you can download them for free on the andriod market but not 100% sure i hope he can tell us
Bravo John, very good preview. Why did they bother to do such a complex work for nothing .... who's gonna buy this cheapo (I own a Galaxy and a Hero-european and can confirm the cheap impression: compared to the Hero is really cheap !) with such a complex and useless interface ?Only for the Oled screen ? I don't think it's worth it, not at all ! Plus Samsung Customer Service in Europe really sucks, hope that in the USA is better, but here they sold the Galaxy full of bugs and haven't answered to ANY of the customers complaints ! Check our forums .....

After using this phone for a while, which would you recommend to a new Android user? Would you get a MyTouch 3G and root and mod it, or pay the premium for the Samsung Behold II?
Good call on Open Home. I just got a Behold II and was getting really frustrated with how, after a few hours of running, it would bog down and apps would crash. I had to turn the phone off and back on again for it to even be usable. Open Home fixed all that and it's running faster than ever. I'm glad I stumbled across this video before I got my phone. Thanks for the info.
