How to unlock and root an N1

I don’t know about you folks, but I’m just a bit leery of doing anything that could potentially damage my new Nexus One, which should arrive tomorrow. In fact, for the first month, I suspect the riskiest behavior I might engage in is the missing of one hour’s diaper polishing. But for those of you with a taste for the geekness, Android and Me has published a step-by-step how-to for unlocking and rooting your new toy. I would suggest clicking that link rather than simply viewing the video below, but I wanted to give a little preview of the material here:

Oh, who am I kidding? I’ll want to take screenshots within a few days of getting my own Nexus One. Wish me luck.

Good luck on the new phone! I'm loving mine!

  2. You should do it. I got mine yesterday and rooting was incredibly easy. There really isn't too much that could go wrong. Besides, you have to have root to run the Nexus One “Torch” application, which turns the LED flash into a flashlight (or torch, as they say in foreign places). And that is reason enough.

This phone is 100% worth the money (I bought two). There are Live Wallpaper apps already on the market you should check out this video of one called Digital Rain. I don’t know why everybody is crying about that it doesn’t have multitouch theres an app for that :) . I used the HTC Sense rom for 4 months and this is way better. Also you might want to install the Sense keyboard.
