Motorola Bringin’ On The Android

A late January conference call with Motorola about earnings would usually be pretty boring, but today it turned out to be rather interesting. According to CEO of Motorola Sanjay Jha, we will be seeing lots more Android in the next year. Sanjay was quoted saying “we plan to launch at least 20 devices, including at least one direct-to-consumer device with Google.”, exciting eh? He also mentioned that half of those 20 devices will feature Android with a strong emphasis on BLUR. Motorola has really got back into the cell phone game by utilizing everything Android has to offer. In fact, out of the twelve million devices Motorola sold in the 4th quarter of 2009, nearly two million of them were Android. That says a lot about Android and what companies can do with it.

Now about that direct-to-customer device, or Nexus Two… or Shadow… or whatever. I personally don’t think Google would have HTC make the Nexus One and then turn to Motorola for the Nexus Two. That being said, I do think anything Moto would sell direct-to-customer would be really exciting. But hey, who knows right? Crazier things have happened. What do you guys think? Would you like to see the Nexus Two made by Moto? What kind of changes would you like to see made to Blur in the coming year? Let us know in the comments or shout out your opinion on Twitter to me or any of the DroidDog gang. Oh and FYI, that picture is still just that, a picture. Nothing concrete yet.

It very well could be. No one knows yet. All we know is that Moto will be making a direct-to-customer device and sell it through google.com/phone. I just wouldn't count anything out as the new Google phone. Andy Rubin did say they were already making a more business friendly Nexus.

Those are some valid points. What I mean to say is I think Google would have Motorola make them a phone, in fact we now KNOW Motorola will be making them a phone, but I don't think it would be called the Nexus Two. If they were to release a phone called the Nexus Two, I think it would be manufactured by HTC.Best scenario would be something like Google.com/phone gives customers the choice to buy a Nexus One unlocked or with a plan through multiple carriers. A Nexus Two the same way, which would just be a Nexus One with a physical keyboard. Then finally a Motorola manufactured phone (oh, say... the shadow?) that is a completely different device, looking and feeling, than the Nexus One.That would be awesome.

Not for me. Every Motorola phone that my daughter and I have had, (4 of them) has been a piece of S*#!. None of them worked for more than a year and my favorite was the one that would just randomly shut itself off in the middle of a conversation/ Not drop the call, shut off! It didn't matter if it was running on the battery of plugged in (A/C or 12Volt adapter)

"I personally don’t think Google would have HTC make the Nexus One and then turn to Motorola for the Nexus Two." I do think exactly this. Google.com/Phone is more of an exclusive shop. They already said they would rely on different Phone makers and it just makes sense given the fact that Google has no interest in competing with them. They just want to have some control over the products Motorola et al produce and the shop is just the vehicle to achieve just this.

Uh... has anyone thought about it being the new Droid for Verizon.... Motorola made the first droid, thats what all those weird commercials about how amazing the Verizon network is with a smartphone came from.... get over the Nexus one, it just came out. the droid has been out for a while. hey it even looks like IT: http://www.starksilvercreek.com/wordpress/wp-co...

I'm a long time Motorola fan having owned 3 StarTacs, an MPx200, an MPx220, an MPx300, a V600, a Razr, and now the Droid. But mark my words.... Motorola is going to shoot it'self in the foot with Android. It's gonna try to ride the success of the Droid and release a billion variants that look like it until the public revolts like they did with the Razr.
