Remember the Milk on Android…for FREE
Why RTM?
Remember the Milk is the most efficient, easy-to-learn, well-integrated, and widely recognized to-do app I’ve ever seen. There is an applet for the Linux dock, AWN, a plugin for GMail, several Mac Dashboard widgets, etc., etc. All of this stuff works fine with the free RTM, mind you. It’s the Android/iPhone/Blackberry/WinMo apps that require a paid account.
My favorite feature on Android is the widget:

Google Calendar widget (left) sitting next to the official RTM widget
Tapping the RTM widget shown above launches a functional, super-simple interface for adding and checking off your tasks:

Compare this to what I consider to be RTM’s leading competitor, the free app, Astrid.

John, can you tell me where you've read that Astrid is from Google??? Or am I reading your article the wrong way b/c I swear that the creator of Astrid is some guy in university doing computer science….
I'm not finding any info on him, but nothing indicating that Google owns it, either. I'm not sure why I was certain they bought it. Thank you fer getting me checking back on that.
You gotta give gtasks more of a shot John! It integrates with your google calendar, and you can use it on your phone to add tasks, or from your desktop. I do wish you could change the widget instead of just the yellow color, but hopefully it will become more fully featured as time goes by.
Then again, my list only has 1 thing on it, and it's not even that important, haha. I suppose if I was really busy I might need to add to it via twitter or gmail or whatever.
I agree with Astrid…lots going on, and for a simple “task,” it should be simple to add. (But that's why I like gtasks. Add the item, a date if you'd like, and done.)
I'm surprized Google hasn't done more to make Tasks useful across multiple devices/platforms. Why isn't there an official Google widget for this? Seems like I should be able to choose “Tasks View” or something when adding a new calendar widget, but the Google Calendar on Android has no tasks support other than viewing. I hope it's coming soon.
gTasks seems O.K., but yeah… I have to admit the yellow sticky isn't doing it for me. :0)
Astrid isn’t a Google Product.
Have you checked out the RTM extension in the chrome browser?
Thanks for all the info on these apps John! These types of things are just what I have been looking for for my N1. I'm using the AudioManager app now too. I'm hoping that Google updates their calender app so we can see and update tasks from a separate widget as well.
Have you tried cloudList? It's free and we've got a web app as well: cloudlist.quarterstaf.com
While I understand, you're probably unlikely to make the switch but it would be nice to get some feedback on what you think of our app. =)
Interesting idea! Now my boyfriend won't need to keep calling me from the grocery store to ask “what else do I need to buy?” j/k. I'll give it a whirl.
Hmm 1.5 shouldn't be a reason why it failed since you can download it. Can you email me at andrew at quarterstaf dot com ? I'll try to fix this for you asap. You're using an Eris?

UPDATE: Bummer. Downloaded but it gave me an error message that it couldn't install onto my phone. I've got Android 1.5. Is that why?

I’ve just installed Astrid, but it looks like it does not support remember the milk… probably it does not support it anymore?
