FiOS Remote Control App

Motorola Droid and HTC Imagio users that rely on FiOS via Verizon for their television service officially have a new app to play with, a remote control. By using FiOS wifi you can tether you phone to your receiver and use it as a universal remote or turn your TV into a handy dandy picture viewer. But wait, there’s more! You can also import a favorite channels list back and fourth for use with multiple TVs. There isn’t much more to be said other than more devices will be able to run the mobile remote app before too long as well so be on the lookout. Remote control phone… phone remote control… it’s all been done (see: Boxee, Mac, DirecTV). Anyone out there going to give it a shot?

Tried it. Problem is that you can only be using their router. So for those of us who opted for better wifi and control by using something other than the crappy Actiontek, cannot use this program. Funny thing is, the factory router is still hooked up for guide and DVR use. Makes sense, but is still a bummer.

We're trying to setup remote control at my parent's house in Boston (no FIOS in Nashville yet).

Dino – is it a driver issue? Why are we locked into using their router?
