The app is a mix between Barcode Scanner, ShopSavvy, Google Goggles, and Google Product Search. Video and more info after the break:

Features:

  • Detailed product information: Find prices, reviews, specs, and more. Shopper is powered by Google Product Search.
  • Barcode scanning: Scan the barcode of almost any product to quickly learn more about it.
  • Save your history and favorites: Shopper saves your history and lets you star your favorites for later.
  • Scan the covers of books and media: Find a product by simply pointing your camera phone at the cover art of a book, CD, DVD, or video game.
  • Voice search: Say the name of a product and find it easily in Shopper.
  • Share your finds with friends: Find something you want to share? Click on the share link to post to Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, Instant Messaging, etc..

And why didn't they just work Shopper into Goggles? It's the same thing basically.

I like some things that Google is doing, but they are moving way too fast. They've got their hand in everything and have yet to master any of their new ventures. Slow down Google, concentrate and focus.

I'm using my Nexus one just fine. It's the best phone I have ever owned or used. Has there been a few problems with the phone? Sure but the same thing can be said about every other smartphone too. It's taken most other companies many, many months to fix their bugs and other problems with their devices but the N1 has only been out a little over a month and has already seen one update with another one planned soon. Google doesn't have just one software team working on one project at a time. They have many different teams, each working on a different project. If Google releases a new application from one team, that doesn't mean they haven't had a team working on fixing Android bugs. Let's be realistic. The N1 is far from defective.

I say definitely better than ShopSavvy. I could care less about local results, and Shopper takes up considerably less memory than ShopSavvy. Plus, it's freakishly fast. Every time I scan something, I'm surprised by how crazy fast it is. I'm liking it.

No, not better than ShopSavvy. No local search results (online retailers only). Only thing Shopper has going for it at the moment is that it takes up less memory than ShopSavvy on my G1. I'll wait for more features.

Wow. What's wrong with the nexus one? What's defective about it?

After testing it out, I don't think the makers of ShopSaavy are sweating over Google Shopper. Google's app doesn't read QR codes, or 2D barcodes (Those square boxes with all the pixels in them), Not even their OWN QR codes that they have around the internet. It also only searches for books, CDs and video games. And only new ones at this point. Once Google Shopper catches up, maybe Other app developers will be worried. But not yet.

It's nice that Google can find the time to keep coming out with these new applications. Buzz, shopper, etc... It's too bad they can't find the time to fix the totally F$#*ed up defective Nexus One. It's an outright crime to still be advertising and selling a know defective product.
