DroidWars: Twitter clients – Q1, 2010

twidget_liteObviously, I haven’t covered all of the Twitter options available in the Android Market. Not only are there dozens of other dedicated apps, there is an ocean of multi-purpose programs out there with Twitter integration, like BuddyMob. I’m not even going to try to list them all. And when you consider the Twitter apps and widgets that ship with Sense, MotoBlur, and other flavors of Android, the list becomes impossible to manage, review-wise.

Twitter is everywhere, being used by everyone. But you all knew that already, didn’t you?

I love the features of Twidroid Pro especially being able to handle multiple accounts. But lately I've trying twicca and I definitely enjoy the simple clean UI and smaller footprint. I'm using twicca more and more.

Twicca COULD be the best twitter client. There is only one huge problem: When there is a notification for new tweets, these tweets are not cached by the application. This means you have to wait until the tweets are loaded. This is anoying somtimes, so i use twidroid now.

Seesmic is by far the best Twitter client. It has the cleanest interface and is completely free. I tried Twicca after reading this article, but I found its interface to only be marginally better than Twidroid, which I really dislike.

That was actually on my original list, but I had way too many clients and had to trim away the ones I didn't like as much. I know it's a good app, I'm just not a fan, personally.

Why no mention of Swift Tweets? Simple, fast, and includes an awesome "light" browser within the app.

For me, it's almost more important that I can fit as many tweets onto a screen as possible. I find Seesmic, Twitdroid, and Touiteur do the best at not wasting screen space. I hate having to constantly scroll when using Tweetcaster or Hootsuite. If touiteur was faster it would probably be my number 1. For some reason the load times on that are far longer than with Seesmic or Twitdroid.

Agree, Twicca is the best twitter client ever made. They could make a widget to update right from the desktop, without enter the app, but it's ok. I also like Tweegee, when on Android 1.5 (Twicca is 1.6+ only).

I'm with you in hoping tweet deck is released on Android. Its the main twitter client i use on my PC. Opening pics and vids in the client itself is a revelation. Navigation is easy. Facebook integration is alright too. Fingers crossed it will get released on android soon :).
