Finally…FINALLY, the Droid update is upon us

pdfWe’ve heard this several times now, if not a dozen, but it appears that the 2.1 update for Droid will finally, actually, begin to roll out Thursday. I’m not going to bother linking to all the false reports we’ve seen recently. No one needs to relive the nightmare.

Android Central has a snap of an internal system that indicates the date, and we have an official pdf from VZW that tells us what changes are included in the mandatory system update. Yes, it’s mandatory, and I can’t imagine anyone arguing against installation. You can get the full details on the update as well instructions on the procedure over at Verizon’s Droid support page. I’ve pasted a snippet from the pdf below. Yes, Live Wallpapers are in there. In part, the document reads…

Will this include the new Music player app like the N1's? What time is it supposed to come out?

you say that it will begin to roll out on thursday. does that mean all droid will get the update on thursday or will there be a period of time when they will receive the update?

If you would like to go back to stock go to www.droidmod.org and download and install their dmupdater follow the directions it gives you cause it has a very easy way to return you back to stock with no root access but if your on bugless 0.8 you already have everything the update will provide, but like i said anyone with a moto droid wanting to return to stock download and install dmupdater it is the easiest way back to stock, you will probably have install their droidmod 1.0 first then you can open up the dmupdater again and chose 2.0.1 stock (no root) option there is a tutorial on this at www.droid-life.com

So will this then be the exact same version that's on the Nexus One? Or does that still have extra stuff that this won't get? I'm trying to decide between the two..

Any word from Sprint on when they'll roll out 2.1?

if you read the original post for Bugless beast v.8, it clearly states under "Added & Included" towards the bottom "Disabled OTA Updates"

If you have bugless v 0.8 you already have everything that the update will bring Bugless Beast is based on the same ese53 that the OTA from verizon is going to be based on actually you have a little more than the OTA will offer, The same goes for anyone that is on ultimatedroid from blackdroid, simply stunning from chevyno1, smoked glass from AdamZ, and surely the cyanogenmod 5.0.4.2 from koush/cyanogen, so any droid owners with one of the ones mentioned above no real need to update unless you really want this cause the roms i just mentioned already have it.

I hope someone else pipes up here because I am not the man to ask about Droid hacks. Though, I can say that cooked ROMs are generally well ahead of any carrier update. If you don't have these features yet, I'm sure you will before too long.

I am curious... if I have Bugless beast v0.8..... will it still come to me?? I have heard of roms that do not allow you to update, please help. This is exciting!
