Nexus One now available for AT&T

nexus-one-phoneAfter checking on a post over at Android and Me, I found that Google has indeed begun selling the Nexus One with support for AT&T’s 3G (and that of Rogers Wireless up North). As you can gather from the screenshot after the jump, there is no subsidy option – it’s $530 or nothing. But contract free is the way to go if you can afford it anyway, right? Welcome aboard the N1 train, Bellers. You ready to root yet?

This makes up for AT&T's fail of a moto back-flip

Hardly. It’s not subsidized, which means it’ll be deathly expensive on any AT&T plan except maybe an individual prepaid plan ‘cuz of AT&T’s greed. When AT&T churns out an honest respectable Android phone then I will forgive. Until then I’ll be running off their customers by going into the stores and talking about T-Mobile’s/Sprint’s (but mainly T-Mobile’s) cheapness and reliability as much as I can. >:D IT’S [respectable] TROLLIN’ TIME!!!
Also, I guess I tried to tip Droid Dog off a little late. Oh well. Worth a try.

Since this is a no-contract phone, can AT&T block apps?

Hey, just a heads up, if you're AT&T and gonna wait till June anyway, I'd recommend getting the HTC Desire instead. Basically, it's the Nexus One with HTC Sense UI – and it's coming out around May/June contracted with AT&T.

it just shows that they are not looking out for you . i dont think this will go over well with every body . are they going yhoo or what?????

remember, there’s no subsidized priced. meaning Google/HTC could’ve just created a phone that’s compatible with AT&T’s 3G frequency. They just replaced the antenna their using… No subsidized so AT&T probably doesn’t even promote this… I believe AT&T is still very well YAHOO. and Google is just saying we can make any phone we want and sell them.

No, AT&T has no hand in this what so ever, thankfully.

  12. whats wrong with it? I think its great. People have been brainwashed by the carriers into believing a cellphone is truly as cheap as $200 dollars. Well its time to wake up and face the cold hard truth! All cell phones cost anywhere between $400 – $600. And subsidies should be outlawed, if you cant afford it then save up.

You dont see cable companies giving you a subsidy on a T.V. for signing up for cable do you?

  13. cortez.i says:

not many folks in the US buy unsubsidized phones. i prefer an unsubsidized device because it's unlocked, not stuffed with at&t crapware and i control it not at&t. i'll be getting one and won't think twice about the price….

As a Canadian I've been waiting for this opertunity for months, I've also been interested in bying a android phone even longer but due to the Canadian cell phone companies not understanding the whole concept of a cell phone OS I've held off. 90% of all the android phones available here are still running 1.5 and until recently there was no plan to upgrade them ever (rogers had never requested a upgrade from htc for any phone before the android ones hit).

I wouldn't be surprised if the sales in Canada exceed what they are expecting since not only is the OS upgrades controlled directly by Google but it's also unlocked so we aren't tied to a three year contract (2 year subsidized here don't exist).

I'm also of the mind that i'd rather have an unsubsidized phone, I don't want any of the Rogers crap that i'll never use and just takes up space in memory and don't want to be stuck with a 3 year contract. Now I just cant wait till my phone is shipped (order was placed the minute I knew they were available).

Are you sure, because I have the unlocked Nexus One and I can pay for apps using my T-Mobile account. I don't trust AT&T.

  17. It's been 1month but it's my first time to read that news. Well I agree at the above statement buy the phone without service and insert your own sim, I don't like plan because it's more expensive than in using a prepaid card.
