Google’s Android team makes some big changes

When you think of the people who represent Android, who do you think of? For me, other than Andy, it would have to be Erick Tseng. As Senior Android Product Manager, he’s been present at most press gatherings, going as far as leading the stage at the Nexus One launch. I’m sure Google is sad to see him go, but his destination comes as no surprise:

“About to begin a new, exciting chapter in my life. Heading to #Facebook on Monday to help innovate at the intersect of mobile and social”

Facebook has confirmed this tweet, saying Erick would be taking the job as head of mobile products. This isn’t the first time Erick Tseng has switched up his job from one successful company to another, he worked for Yahoo and Microsoft before Google got him for 4 years. I’m sure this isn’t the last job Mr. Tseng will hold. We wish him the best of luck.

Erick Tseng isn’t the only one leaving Google this week, Senior Software Engineer Cedric Beust is also on the way out. Cedric gave Android some much deserved respect when he had this to say on his blog:

I’ve been at Google for six years but it feels more like “Two years at Google and four years in a small start up called Android that plans to revolutionize the mobile industry”. I don’t know what’s the most surprising: how ambitious that goal was four years ago or how far Android has come today.

Professional networking company LinkedIn has confirmed that they are the ones scoring Mr. Beust. No one really knows what he will be doing yet with LinkedIn. Cedric’s area of expertise has been Java for quite some time now. There’s a big chance he’ll end up doing something along those lines. Good luck to you too Cedric. Android’s gonna miss you.
