I received an email from Vlingo. The app is compatible with Android 2.2, but is copy-protected. That's probably why it isn't showing up in the Market for you guys yet.

You are correct. It would be illegal, here in MN. In some states it may not be. Regardless of what the texting/phone laws are in your state, you can probably get pulled over for “driving while distracted” This could include eating, putting on makeup, jamming out to music, and using the phone. In any case, legal or not, Vlingo and other voice-to-text apps HELP to keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the steering wheel.

It's possible that Vlingo hasn't updated the app to support 2.2. It's as easy as ticking a check box in Eclipse, but it still has to be done. Also, sometimes when a new ROM is released, copy-protected apps don't show up in the Market right away. This happened when I updated my Hero with the “official” leak. The ROM was official, but it wasn't signed by Google. Since this is a $10 app, I'd be willing to bet that it's copy-protected.

I'll email my contact at Vlingo and let them know it's not showing up.

You seem to have to do a lot of touching for a hands free experience, this would still be illegal since you physically have to click send no?? “no person may operate a motor vehicle while using a wireless communications device to compose, read, or SEND an electronic message, when the vehicle is in motion or a part of traffic”. Furthermore, every time you want to use this app you have to touch the phone at least twice to launch and end the voice command.

Just did a search for vlingo… and scanned the qr code and it's saying that “no matches are found.” I'm on a Nexus w/ Froyo.

More importantly (IMO), Froyo now has REAL handsfree/Bluetooth dialing!
