Sprint thanks “customers for your continued patience” regarding Android 2.1

In case you haven’t noticed, it’s the 7th of May.  According to an internal Best Buy document, the retailer was expecting to be able to help customers update their Hero today.  Well Hero and Moment owners might have wait a little longer.  This morning, Sprint posted a couple tweets that are a little disheartening.

I’m not Captain Speculator, but it sounds like Sprint may be taking a jab at HTC and/or Samsung in the bottom tweet, by stating that THEY “had hoped to have this resolved by now”.  While the day is only half over, it’s not looking good for Hero/Moment owners to be able to geek out with Android 2.1 this weekend.

By the way, the natives are getting restless…

I woke up at 3:30 in the morning to check if the 2.1 had come about, then scoured the Sprint website, then others at work all morning till I saw where Sprint let is us know it wasn’t to be. It will be a good weekend, but it could have been better. Me and My Hero (HTC) will have to wait

I give up. Screw it. I don't even care anymore. I just want to know when I can register to pre-order my EVO 4G. I'm not sure the HERO would have been all that hot with 2.1 when it lags so much with 1.5. 2.1 would've killed it. But, if they can't bring out updates in a timely manner with the EVO 4G, I'm definitely going to have to look for either a new phone OS altoghter, or switch to a provider who can get updates like Verizon. There has got to a more unified way of getting everyone using Android the updates when they become available from Google. There's just got to be a better way. By the time this update comes out, Hero and Moment will be old news, they will probably already have Moment 2 out, EVO 4G will essentially be the Android phone of choice for potential Hero buyers, and the rest is history.

  6. Ben says:

it has been pushed back to may 21st

Why bother waiting for the Sprint release? You can update both the Samsung Moment and Hero to 2.1. I've been running DamageControl for Hero and runs great.

I hear ya. However, the average Joe consumer a) won't know how to do this; b) wouldn't want to do this.
