Nokia n900, now with more Android than ever

If there’s one thing us Android fans love to see, it’s our precious Android OS on every device possible. We’ve seen Android on iPhones and Windows Mobile devices, but this is the first time we’ve seen it running on something Nokia. The Nokia n900 was released as a phone to hack. It was an experimental device, with an experimental OS, that had some not so experimental hardware. With some help of the Nokia hacking community, The n900 is currently running Froyo 2.2 to best of it’s ability. There are still some things that don’t work, but who knows, maybe that will get fixed someday. There seems to be a lot of porting Android to crazy devices only to abandon them after the initial alpha release. Oh well though, it’s generally done for more of the “look at what I can do” factor than anything else. Some devices (the HD2) would be fantastic running Android as opposed to their native OS. Now that would be worth some time. Check out the video below to see the wonder in action. Anyone out there have an n900? Anyone?

  1. I have the N900 and the Maemo software is miserable as is Nokia's handling of updates. It's sad the device itself with the exception of the lousy battery life (seemingly a common complaint with smartphones) and the placement of the plugs.

I suspect that having Android running instead of lift the device a great deal. I would even be willing to donate to get the job finished just to rid myself of Maemo.
