Froyo and other major EVO updates upon us [UPDATED]
UPDATE: It’s official, though the official rollout start date is August 3rd, and the update should be available to all users by August 14th. 08/03 is when the notifications begin, but it’s worth checking for the update before you’re notified:
For those who just can’t wait to get Android 2.2, there will be an easy user initiated option to download the upgrade. Customers can access the software update through their HTC EVO 4G under the Settings Menu > System Updates > HTC Software Update. This will initiate the three-step process also.

Engadget has a hefty leak of “HIGHLY CONFIDENTIAL” material from Sprint posted today, and while a Froyo date for EVO would, alone, be enough to satisfy most of us, there’s a host of other goodies packed in here. From HD video improvements, to new widgets, to UI changes in some areas, to LED torch capability during video shoots, to…etc., etc. It’s a massive list of improvements, and it’s making me all giddy just thinking about the first few.
While it will be a few days before you can expect a prompt to download, anxious users, like myself, should be able to manually initiate the upgrade starting tomorrow. Yes, tomorrow (see final image). Check it out:

Already able to download it!
I'm a little confused…When can I initiate the update? Is it on 8/03 or today 7/30/10. It's currently 2:09 pm EST and I haven't been able to initiate the DL through settings>update phone>htc upgrades or whatever.
I am rooted so I shouldn't download this update correct?
Still nothing on my phone, misleading about the early update I think. Might have to wait for the official release date of 8/3.
