Motorola Backflip update

No, it’s not to 2.1, and yes, it’s still on AT&T… but hey, at least it’s something right? In today’s update (13.37) to the Backflip, you will see a number of fixes in an attempt to improve and polish things up a bit. According to Motorola, the list of changes looks something like this:

Improved Text Messaging General improvements to text messaging – especially for longer message threads.
Improved Display Color and clarity improvements to the display.
Camera Correction Repairs random occurrence of camera application quitting while in use.
Bluetooth Improvements Better audio and connectivity to Bluetooth headsets.
Removes Size Restrictions for Ringtones Ringtone files no longer have size restrictions.
Improved Network Connection Improves overall connection to the 3G network.
Better Performance of Android Market™ Applications Improves performance of downloaded applications from the Android Market™.
Improved Stability Additional device stability reduces occurrence of unresponsiveness and/or programs quitting unexpectedly.
Improved Battery Life Improves battery performance when battery is fully drained and charging.
Improved Streaming Audio & Video Playback Repairs rare instances of streaming audio and video interruptions that have resulted in device powering off-and-on.

my phone constantley shut down on me , especially when typing or opening a text message. this happened with my first one and motorola sent a replacement, 3 months later was same thing on new phone. this time they said they couldnt do any thing until i downloaded the update. i did that and now my phone is so &^%$ SLOW. it now gets stuck for upto 25 seconds when i try to do ANYTHING!

i just got the backflip and im have severe problems with it.....ill be browsing through apps, or ringtones, or pictures and it shuts off on my and goes to the white screen with the motorola symbol on it...i dont understand why this is happening, it will shut off in the middle of things that i am doing, i do have the 1.5 but at&t told me to go to their page and download the new version 2.1 i think it is cause it isnt available over airwaves, but when i do that it says that my phone is up to date but the company says that i should have the 2.1 upgrade, so basically will this new upgrade fix the prob i am having, i cant take pictures without it shutting off on me grrrrrrr

dude my backflip kickass.. ive had it for months.. jeeze peeps u r so biatchy.. emowho

why cant we do mass deletion of history? Thanks for correcting the history blunder but please do another update to do mass deletion instead of individual it sucks.

Ever since I did an update my motoblur is lagging! And when I get email alerts I try to pull down the application bar and it disappears. I'm not happy.

I am the only one in my family to buy the backflip, everyone else is running 2.1 or 2.2 software. I was promised an update at the end of september. I payed more for this phone than anyone in my family. I know i should have did more research now, my friend just got updated to 2.2 today .why call it an android phone if you are going to run outdated software. now that iam struck with this lie . 1.5 firmware . If they are going to update to 2.1 in september why not 2.2 to keep up with the latess firmware. it helps keep customers in the future.

This is total BS. Where is 2.1? WHERE IS 2.1?

you have to install it yourself... ive been on 2.1 for a year almost

Another thing I noticed since the update is that when using the phone in desktop mode the once extremely bright buttons turn off when you switch to night mode (thank God)

yeahh, my backflip looks and acts the exact same... although i loved the bright blue screen when the update was installing haha

Awesome glad i found this site! I do agree about the battery life that is straight BS... I also think that it is BS that we don't have at least 2.1 already. I bring this topic up for you guys. Will 2.1 stream live video and will the update have any fixes for the signal quality of the phone? I often find myself in the middle of the city with less than 2 bars of 3G or more often than not on the Edge of the network!

Installed the update. Camera does launch a decent bit faster. Applications and overall performance also seems a bit faster (not sure if it's placebo effect). However, battery life doesn't seem to have changed at all. It's nice to have SOMETHING, but I'm starting to feel like we're being duped as a preemptive move to make us feel better about 2.1 not actually coming to us in Q3. Just wait and see...

I needed this update. I was just about to return this phone because every time I took a picture....then phone would shut off. It was ridiculous. This update solved that problem. My other issue is my G1 from 2008 has Android 1.6...but this phone from 2010 is only running 1.5? We need 2.1 or 2.2 ASAFP!

when are we going to get the 2.1 update

I applied the update and the phone does seem more solid. My backflip used to reboot intermittently when connecting/disconnecting to a data connection. That has not happened since the update. IMO, the most noticable change is that the camera app is much snappier and less buggy. Before the update, the camera took an eternity to start up and often crashed with a black screen. It comes up much more quickly and hasn't blacked out on me after updating. I'm not sure about battery life. I manually tweaked some of the battery profile options (adjusted peak times, timeouts) and it has done wonders for battery life. So, yeah... not 2.1, but definately an improvement!

i understand that they have to fix the 2.1 update so that it works with MotoBlur...but really, should i take this long!!! we should have all the benefits of owning an Android phone as everyone else! i do like my Backflip & i really hope that this minor update does fix the issues listed above but i want my 2.1 asap!!! and i am like the previous commenter, i dont see a difference yet! so i hope this wasnt something to pacify us Backflip owner & Motoblur users!

I can't either. I don't believe the battery life too.

Word is TBA August. :(

Where is my cliq xt update

i finished installing and cant tell a difference yet

im downloading the update now, thanks!
