Superhack: mad tinkerer builds Android/LEGO robot
“In the end, I had a huge smile across my face as my Lego robot ventured out across the vast living room carpet, with me controlling it remotely from only the image I could see on my computer screen. It’s not the robot from lost in space, but none the less, it can open up a lot of young minds into how their future may look.”
Indeed. That is a quote from tech mind, Mike Partain, who has hacked together a Motorola Droid and LEGO NXT Robot Kit in order to give the toy a camera, GPS, and compass, as well as the appropriate software controls. In the video below, you can see a screencast from Mike’s desktop computer as he controls the bot remotely using the Droid’s camera for guidance. The creator isn’t sure if he’ll have a chance to update or improve the code, so he’s just giving it away for others to build upon. Awesome work, I’m sure his cat would agree!
