EVO 4G Vs. Epic 4G: which one is right for me?

Sprint released the video at the end of this post under the premise that they want to help you decide which 4G gadget is right for you, but it plays more like an Epic advertizement than it does an honest comparison. So, we at DroidDog are going to do our best to help you decide for yourself by presenting different aspects of these devices as plainly and clearly as possible. After all, we figure there are a bunch of you out there itching to get into a WiMAX Android, but just can’t decide which features are most important.

Do you want a hardware keyboard? Are megapixels and dual LED flashes really that important? What about Sense and TouchWiz? Not even sure about the answers to these questions? Rest assured; DroidDog is here to help!

If you want to start with unboxings, see the HTC EVO 4G (unboxed along with the iPhone 4, here), and the Samsung Epic 4G unboxing here.

In our first Epic vs. EVO post, we took a look at the camera software of each device, as well as photo and video samples from both. So far, user feedback indicates a landslide victory for Epic, though I think the EVO’s colors are more accurate. I do think the Epic’s look “cooler,” not in the temperate sense, but in terms of a desirable aesthetic. View the post here.

In the second post, I looked at the differences in hardware and the software UI. In my conclusion, I explained why I think Epic is the better choice for most, while the EVO was the only option for me. Check it out.

The Samsung Moment was the first Sprint Phone with an AMOLED Screen.

She hardly mentioned the Evo, seemed more like an Epic commercial to me.

Ugh. Why did they release this video without correcting the gross yellow tint first? Come on Sprint, I know yellow is your color, but is it necessary to represent that in on teeth and tongue?

From reports I've read so far, the processor in the Epic absolutely dominates pretty much everything else on the market other than the iPhone, which has something very similar. Any idea on whether there will be a noticeable difference in usability between the Epic and the Evo? There are a lot of things pulling me toward the Evo, but I got stuck with an outdated processor when I got the Hero on it's launch day, and would like to avoid making the same mistake again.

the evo and epic have the same processor (snapdragon) the iphone has Apple's processor that isn't quite as good. The snapdragon is a 1ghz processor.

No, only EVO has Snapdragon, Epic has Hummingbird, with much better 3D acceleration. Actually when I compared the 2 at the Sprint store, the Epic seemed to be visibly snappier and that was the main reason I chose it. But I'm still not completely sold on Epic due to some issues (GPS, 3G upload speeds) and will wait what happens, still got 3 more weeks to decide if I want to return...
