Fix for EVOs with unofficial Froyo update

We know that HTC is working to get less patient EVO owners (like myself) back “on track” after we prematurely installed an unofficial update that we thought was the final, would-be, OTA Froyo package. Here’s to hoping that their official solution isn’t exclusive to Windows users utilizing HTC Sync.

For those who didn’t learn their lesson the first time around, an xda-developer user called Pojoman has uploaded the official, final Froyo for EVO, but it is a complete install that will wipe all of your data. (Follow that last link at your own risk.)

At this point I’m content to wait it out and see what the official fix is before I jump on any other leaks. HTC’s advice sounds sensible enough:

“A small reminder that when official SW updates are ready, HTC or your carrier will notify you. Unofficial software can create future issues”

If it turns out that Windows is required to do this the right way, I’ll be checking back on this post for links.
