G2 slide mechanism revealed

Engadget just “got a second batch” of G2 shots, and this one clearly pictures the sliding mechanism for revealing the Touch Pro 2-esque hardware QWERTY with *gasp* staggered keys. Rather than swiveling out to the side, like the G1s screen did, it looks as though this one arches away from the body. Which, while it could be more prone to mid-position breakage, also makes for easier cleaning. Then again, it’s really difficult to tell exactly how this thing operates without a hands-on video. At first glance, the screen appears to tilt for video viewin, but Engadget has updated their post with the sad news that tilt is not included.

mmm mmm mmm physical keyboard. To me it looks like a Nexus one with a keyboard (which I like). I am hanging on to my G1 until a suitable replacement comes along and this just may be it. looks like it has a flash which would be a welcome addition. And I am assuming (hoping) it will also come with a 3.5mm jack?(please)any idea what those white keys at the bottom could be?

You guys act like girls when it comes to phones. "I want a pretty one" "I want one with sparkles and is scratch and sniff" BLAH BLAH. The G1 is one of the manliest phones there is. It is plain and brute. So is this. I'm sure you can buy a sequence kit so you can make in sparkle more. BTW my G1 was at ground zero of a nuclear blast. Turned right on when I found it!

my g1 got ran over by a car ...cracked the screen but the phone stilll turned on.

For those of you that are not familiar htc, they make awesome hardware, some of the best, if not the best. Wanting and expecting an Android device to look like an iPhone is beyond my comprehension. Samsung design the Galaxy S series of phone to please this iPhone envy some of you have, so get one. But really to criticize a device without having held/used it is just silly. My 2¢ keep the change

yeah, I've had the G1 for close to two years and I actually dropped it from a second story building onto the garden below. It worked FINE lol. No cracks etc... I wouldn't be surprised if this phone turns out to be very durable. HTC is great in that department.

I understand that looks can be subjective. Nut I think the phone is ugly. I've had the G1 for almost two years and I know that they build great quality products. But that has nothing to do with ascetics. In my humble but accurate opinion, Samsung, Apple and LG knows a thing about looks.

its probably because your an iPhone Fanboy.

Everyone said the same with the G1...I dropped my G1 from a 10ft ladder and turned on after I replaced the battery.

how is this ugly? it looks like a cross between the nexus and gsm hero

the front looks great! i'm gonna wait for this one!

this must be the new standard of ugliness. go learn a thing or two from the iphone or samsung galaxy s

I actually agree. While i'm not a fan of of the iphone 4 look. I am not digging the silver. I'd prefer a HTC EVO or Galaxy S look. The black is great.

It's an HTC Phone.....my touch pro 2 has been through a lot of rainy days and many more drops than a normal phone should go through. Tilting screen and it doesn't break....HTC builds quality phones if this design was from Samsung I will stay away from it. Gotta trust HTC..I'll be waiting for the My Touch HD to come Tmo's way.

I would break that in a week, and that week involves me not going anywhere with it. What a shame. I somewhat had my sights on this one.

i really dont like it looks like it can break very easy.....
