O2 Dell Streaks to see 2.1 very soon

Good news for Dell Streak owners in the UK today, as carrier O2 has conformed that ANdroid version 2.1 – Eclair – will be available for Streaks on their network starting September 1st, Wednesday. This is an interim release designed to keep rabid fans at bay while waiting for the current version of Android, 2.2, or Froyo. It will be a heck of a lot easier to justify the recent purchase of a gadget running 2.1 than the (what now feels) very old 1.6, but with version 3.0 on deck, we can only hope that Streak owners see Froyo before Gingerbread is officially released by Google.

Unfortunately for U.S. Streak owners, Android 1.6 will be the daily bain for their AT&T Streaks for a bit longer. No official 2.1 or 2.2 release windows have been announced, though 2.1 ROMs are floating around out there.
