Vibrant, DROID X, EVO, & HDMI: who loves your telly?
With all these new fangled contraptions featuring HDMI ports and video out via the 3.5mm connection usually used for headphones, I figured a little video demonstration was in order. Using what I had on hand – the Vibrant, DROID X, and EVO – I ran a few tests to see which phone made best use of its television out capabilities and which used the potential as a selling point and not much else.
Dont get me wrong; it’s nice having a quick and easy interface with a television if only for displaying home made videos, but it’s nicer when geeks have some deeper function to dig in to. Don’t get your hopes up about watching the latest blockbuster on your 720p television – it just ain’t happening yet. Not legally, that is.
UPDATE: Comments at YouTube indicate that I wasn’t clear about the DLNA situation. Vibrant supports DLNA via AllShare, DROID X has a bundled DLNA application, and EVO doesn’t feature DLNA support out of the box. You can install a free app from the Market called iMediaShare to enable DLNA support for EVO. [END UPDATE]

Im hoping that there'll be some magical hack for us root users to enable HDMI out everywhere on the Droid X LOL.
Sprint released a development guide so that developers can utilize the HDMI output.

a shame the evo doesnt have dlna, I wonder if that can be added via an update. That being said the youtube app from the evo looked good. I wish they woud make it so that everything on the phone showed up like on the galaxy S. With the different emulation apps on android, id like ot play some ps1 and sega genesis games on my tv via my phone.
You need to get Samsung's micro usb to HDMI and try the vibrant again, just to make things fair. I'd also be really interested to see the quality of that, and if the fps is locked like the evo.

Is there any way to connect my evo shift to the tv? Either hd or otherwise?
