Beejive IM for Android available now

The ever popular multi-platform instant messaging client Beejive has been brought out of beta today, and into the Android Market for $10. Beejive is very polished, user friendly, and capable of handling messages from AIM, iChat, MobileMe, MSN, Windows Live, Yahoo!, Facebook, MySpace, GoogleTalk, ICQ, and Jabber. While I have yet to use Beejive (I believe that for the most part, the IM is dead), the general consensus seems to be that you get what you pay for. There are alternatives out there that you could try first if forking over a 10 spot makes you a little uneasy. Meebo is available for free in the Market, and Trillian still has a free open beta going on. Once Trillian leaves the open beta, the app is projected to be priced at $5.

Instant messaging fans, what say you? The award for best multi messaging client available goes to…. ?

Trillian is still it for me. The version they're currently developing will sync your chat logs across all platforms, which will just about be IM nirvana.

Hmm... eBuddy is similarly capable and has a decent user interface. I paid for Beejive on my Blackberry because I couldn't find a better option. But $10 for something roughly equivalent to a free app I already have? I think they need to adjust their pricing.

IM certainly isn't dead. It is still a very useful method of right-now communication that is available between mobile and computer users. On a personal level, I use it to stay in constant contact with my wife who is at a computer during the day but who is in a cellular dead zone. On a professional level, I use it constantly during the day to keep in touch with fellow software developers at my organization, as well as QA and Customer Support departments. It's easy to communicate but without the interruption of a phone call, easy to share links and files, and is always there. IM isn't dead.
