Sometimes I think that the proportion of free Android apps downloaded to the number of paid Android apps downloaded may be a bit discouraging to the up-and-coming developer. Other times, I think the gap is outright prohibitive for those that want to make a living. Sure, there’s a fine line to balance in terms of quality, bang-for-the-buck, and that $0.99 – $1.99 sweet spot for coders looking for a quick smash. But some apps clearly require the work to merit a higher price, if only in concept alone. For example, Animated Weather Pro, which at $4.95, has seen between 100 and 500 downloads from the Android Market. The free version, which is ad-supported, has between 10,000 and 50,000.
Now I’m not asking you to run out and buy the app if it isn’t for you, but if you’re simply waiting for additional features before you buy, please read the comic by The Oatmeal below my video review. My point here is that I like Animated Weather, and I want to see it grow and progress. I guess I’m also using it as a stand-in for a host of other apps that are similarly held back from their true potential due to a lack of sales. But I really do want to see this as a live wallpaper.
