G2 clocked at 800MHz, still blazing

T-Mobile has unveiled an interesting image at their SCOOP site that depict2 a scorpion embracing their upcoming G2 Android. Of course, this generated some questions about dual cores because of some rumors we’ve heard in the past, including one about the Vision packing a dual-core 800MHz processor. That information is a bit confusing at this point because the T-Mobile image, embedded below, indicates that the G2 will in fact be clocked at 800MHz. However, there no indications that the G2 will feature a dual-core processor. On the contrary. Still, the The Qualcomm MSM7230 does include the Adreno 205 GPU, which will place the G2 in the upper class of mobile devices.

It’s quite possible that Verizon will host the first dual-core Android.

ok john i need some info about this chip. if google is saying only phones w/ 1ghz will be able to move up to gingerbread this yr and honeycomb next yr why buy this phone and 3 months its out dated? thats insane. i just dont get the logic in making it w/ 800mhz. hell only 3 phones run vanilla in the us the g1,droid1,nexus1. why even make it vanilla then? i love android but its starting to be a pain and goole not steppin it up to keep the os pure esp if gingerbread is supposed to be the os that makes skins obsolete but htc, moto, samsung sayin they aint stopin there skins. last thing why no cam specs? why is only 2 phones got front facing cams? both on sprint and both skinned? i know im complaining but i was hoping this phone was gonna be all i ever wanted and im let down b4 its even out wow!

How about injecting a dose of reality: First, let's look at the BEST overall GLBenchmark results. Yes, the HTC Vision ( TMo G2 ) is in the top 10 graphics-wise ( Thank you, Adreno 205 ): http://glbenchmark.com/result.jsp?benchmark=glpro11&certified_only=1 But then again, it's absolutely ABYSMAL CPU-wise ( go here, and then go to page 3. Yes, page 3. ) http://glbenchmark.com/result.jsp?orderby=205&brand=all&submi=OK&benchmark=glpro11 It's even bested in that respect by the likes of the Acer Liquid A1 and Xperia X10, phones that have been around for over a year. Some ( Acer @ 768Mhz ) with CPU's slower than the G2/Vision.

You have to understand the MHz/GHz isn't everything. If you do a little digging you will notice that the Snapdragon CPU this phone will be using is made with a 45nm manufacturing process, while the original 1GHz Snapdragons were made with 65nm process. In layman terms, that means the newer Snapdragons can be underclocked, to release less heat and use less power with zero hits to performance. Which is what I believe they did here. They underclocked this chipset's CPU to increase battery life without hit to performance. So really this Snapdragon's 800MHz CPU should perform as good if not better than the Snapdragons in the Nexus One, Incredible and EVO 4G.

Since they are rumors maybe what they meant is that the 800mhz chip in the G2 is more like a dual core or has equal power? I say this because one person tells another person and he explains it differently and so on and so on, its human nature to do this.
