Galaxy Tab affordable in US; crazy expensive overseas

That’s way things are looking to shake out anyway, with Samsung execs dropping numbers between $200 and $400 in the States–or “Slightly more than the Galaxy S smartphone”–and with Amazon Germany listing the unit unlocked for €799, $1,030. Ouch. That doesn’t sound like much of an iPad competitor now, does it?

Of course we’re all expecting carrier subsidies in the US, and “slightly more than a Galaxy S smartphone,” which runs $200 on contract, is probably a reference to the subsidized price of the recently rooted Galaxy Tab. So what do you think that indicated for the contract price? $250? $300? Double isn’t “slightly more,” so I’m looking to pay under three bills and a signature. We’ll know for sure before long.

Id like to know why its so Damn expensive. This would be a big mistake for Samsung to do this. Unless they restructure the pricing, iPad is going to rule this segment for a long time...

I hope there isn't another $80-$100/month phone plan for this galaxy tab!

i don't see how you can compare the G-Tab to ipad. if G-Tab is a Ferrari the ipad is a Ford Pinto. no camera, video, too heavy, too big, non 16:9 screen, over heats, no expandable storage, no sim card, should i go on ? i don't have time so.....

I'm looking for <$400 without a contract... Looks like I'm getting an Archos 70 or 101...

How much is the contract? $30/month for 2 years is still $720.

Well, the iPad is about 800 € in Europe so...
