Motorola DROID R2-D2 [Verizon] unboxing and hands on

Are all of you Star Wars fans ready? Tomorrow, September 30th, Verizon will be selling the DROID R2-D2 limited edition handset at the Verizon Wireless website and at select retail locations for $249 after $100 mail-in rebate on a new two year contract. I have a feeling that these things will sell out quickly and considering the collectibility of Star Wars paraphernalia, this could turn out to be a wise long-term investment. Folks who say that a fanboy is a fanboy seem to have left Star Wars junkies out of the equation.

In addition to the cool stuff preloaded on this gadget, another Star Wars related app called The Empire Strikes Back, will be released in the Android Market for Verizon customers running version 2.1 and higher. It was not available at the time of this posting, though several other similarly titled downloads were. The official app will give users access to Bounty Hunt Visual ID, a sound and photo gallery, more live wallpapers, a trivia challenge, and widgets. The app will cost $2.99.
