Not too long after we covered the very cool PanoPlanet Live Wallpaper (second video below), which produces effects like the “little planet” and street view, the developer, Jfreu, added the much requested feature of access to image databases from within the app. This makes such a tremendous difference in the ease of finding and applying a killer LWP that I thought a video update was in order. But that’s not what prompted me to break out the video camera today.
Jfreu has also released a PanoPlanet app that stands on its own–with no association to the PanoPlant live wallpaper, other than that it allows similar manipulation of photographs and access to databases of equirectangular imagery. The app brings (almost) all of the fun of the dynamic live wallpaper to folks who prefer–or are limited to–static backgrounds. Jfreu is currently considering a version of the app that will run on Android 1.5 and 1.6, so if there are a lot of you out there that want this and are running Cupcake or Donut (wow, saying that in my mind makes it seem that much longer ago), leave a comment below and I’ll let him the dev know what the response is like.
