CoPilot Live USA

If you’re looking for a cheap yet very usable turn-by-turn navigation alternative to Google Maps on your Android device, then look no further. ALK Technologies has released a US only version of it’s CoPilot Live series of apps for only $4.99.

So what sets CoPilot apart from other GPS apps? CoPilot stores it’s maps on your phones memory card so you can effectively use navigation whether you have a data signal or not. When everything is added up, the maps only require 2GB of space, a small price to pay for reliable GPS.

This is a very buggy program, which will stop working after an unknown number of uses so they can verify your purchase. If you want spoken street names choose the first name.

You should read the comments in Android Market from those who loaded the app--a lot of 1 star "crashed my [Droid, Vibrant, etc]" and "outdated maps, doesn't show my house". I think Google Nav is safe in its position as the go-to nav app.
