T-Mobile G2 update brings tethering and Wi-Fi calling

Good news for current and potential T-Mobile G2 owners: just 6 days after the official launch, an OTA update that began rolling out this morning brings the recently announced Wi-Fi calling feature as well as the missing tethering functionality via Wi-Fi hotspot creation. The update reportedly also updates the system radio and includes a few minor fixes. With the phone’s nacent user-base, you can probably expect to get yours soon. When you do, let us know what you think of the new features.

My contract just ended and i was wondering if I should start another contract to get a discount on the G2. So what is the G2 blaze or is it the same phone?

Just got off phone with a Tech on T-Mobile we had our rounds wanted to know why T-Mobile blocked tethering and WiFi calling they said this OTA update never came and they don't support this is T-mobile going the same way as Steve Jobs is when it comes to iPhone users are they now going to tell us G2 users what we can and can not have on the phones we buy and own guess its time to root the G2 as I had to root my G1 in past or find another carrier

It very well could be that the OTA is coming on the 16th and is being tested on a limited subset right now. This is only anecdotal info. :) When you get it, let me know if the radio update improves reception noticeably.

Free tethering without rooting.. wow .. who would have though

I have not recieved the update yet in Boston Ma

I'm on my G2 right now. How do I apply these up dates?
