Office Depot announces ViewSonic G Tablet at $399

If Samsung’s Galaxy Tab doesn’t make your techie sense tingle, you might want to shift your gaze to ViewSonic’s Tegra 2 equipped G Tablet, which runs Android 2.2 and plays back 1080p video. Did I mention that it has a 10″ display at 1024 X 600 pixels, packs 16GB of internal memory and rocks a front-facing cam? Well it does, and at $399, this gadget could turn out to be one hot holiday item, and a great alternative to Sammy’s offering.

I received this as a christmas gift. It was returned for the second time today. Horrible product. Try calling the help line, trust me it is a process of waiting 33 minutes and then giving up. Right after christmas I waited approx. 30 minutes only to be disconnected. When I finally spoke with someone I told them my problem and said they would have someone contact me within 24 hours that was two weeks ago. My tablet like to force close when ever it felt like it. It wouldn't let me view many videos and it is stuck on cambridge maine. I wanted to have the company give me some piece of mind this afternoon, that was a waste of time. very disappointing. At least before you purchase the product try to actually talk to someone from the company. Instead of hiring more people to take calls they just took the money and cashed in on it. Well right back at you viewsonic.

I echo the post about 1080p. It's a marketing thing. I get it. The thing can process and play back a 1080p video but on a 1024x600 screen that will be pointless. Better off encoding your videos to the native res of the screen since that is the max you will ever get. They will take up less room and look better. I guess it's more marketing these days. People want to see numbers and 1080 is a number :)
