Opera Mobile 10.1 beta launches in Android Market

It’s been a long time coming, but as we were promised last week, Opera Mobile has finally made its way into the Android Market, albeit a beta incarnation. Opera’s scaled down Mini version of their browser has been available on Android for some time–over a year–but, despite its smooth operation, Opera Mini is a essentially a dumbphone browser (though a nice one), and can’t live up to the full potential Android offers. Opera Mobile, on the other hand, is a different story.

The browser Opera released in the Android Market today is a beta version and the occasional bug rears its ugly head. But overall, the 20+MB (installed) application represents one of the top alternatives to the stock Android browser, even in these early stages. And, unlike Mini, Mobile can be set as your default browser, so Turbo (Opera’s server-side compression technology), geolocation support, and cross-platform bookmark synching can easily be integrated into your daily routine.

The panning and zooming are as smooth and impressive as any I’ve seen on my HTC EVO. More information on Opera Mini and Mobile is available here.
