Last night when Google employee Jean-Baptiste Queru tweeted out that “Gingerbread will be in AOSP soon after Nexus S ships,” the hearts of ROM builders and flashers everywhere skipped a beat. Very soon, the inner workings and source code behind Gingerbread will be available for all to use. Meaning many of those Gingerbread ROMs that are off to a good start will get even better, and famous developers like Cyanogen will finally be able to start the 7th edition of his wildly popular CyanogenMod ROM.
No word yet on exactly how soon after the Nexus S ships the code will be released, but we’ll keep our eyes open.
