Google Reader for Android app released into the Market

Google may be a little late to the game here, in their own words “It’s been a long time coming,” but nonetheless it’s finally here: The official Google Reader app for Android.

Of course the app features all of the usual functions you’d expect to find in the official reader from Google – unread counts, friends, sharing, liking, starring, multiple accounts, synced preferences, full subscription features, and search – but where the app excels is with added features like volume key navigation, the ability to long-press a folder to “bring up a contextual menu that lets you rename, unsubscribe or change folders,” and a very well integrated send (or share) menu.

Google still has a ways to go before they catch up with similar apps that have already established a user-base in the Market, but I’m guessing they’re up to the challenge.
