MetroPCS launches Huawei Ascend

While MetroPCS may be fairly recognizable as far as regional carriers go, they’re still lacking in the product line department. The company does seem to be aware of the problem though, and have turned to Android for a remedy. Starting today, for $179 the Huawei Ascend can be yours – Contract free, with unlimited everything plans starting at $50.

The Ascend may not be the top of the line in Android devices, but for the price it’s not terrible. For under $200 you get Android 2.1, a 3.5″ HVGA display, 3.2MP camera, and microSD slot, among others. For roughly $50 more, you can also buy the LG Optimus M(etro). The Optimus M features roughly the same specs, with just a little more memory and a slightly more up to date firmware. Either device would make a good choice for doing Android on the low.

Speaking only on personal experience, my mother and 2 roommates all use Metro PCS and while customer service isn’t the best, the price is excellent and voice quality seems to be just as good as any of the big 4 in my area (mid-Michigan). You really can’t beat $50 for all you can eat.
