Run Gingerbread launcher on any 2.2 device

Yesterday saw the xda-developers release of the Android 2.3 virtual keyboard for rooted 2.2 devices, and today, we’re getting the Gingerbread launcher–no root required. The app comes from Paul O’Brien of MoDaCo and is a free install for 2.2 devices. Just scan the QR code below (or search the Market for “Gingerbread Launcher”), install, tap your Home button, and select the new launcher. Damn sexy if I do say so myself…and I do. In the short time I’ve been using it, performance is flawless.

Paul promises a trimmed down version the 5.6MB app in the near future.

UPDATE: This screencap is from my HTC EVO 4G with Sense. The launcher does not change your notifications bar, Sense settings, or Sense apps. All you’re really getting here is the cute little buttons at the botton of the screen and a “Manage Applications” item in the home menu. This is just the latest Android launcher: 5 screens, preview cards, and standard App Drawer.

I've pulled the keyboard .apk and .so from the system.img from SDK9 but I can't get it to work on my myTouch 4g. I need to change the referenced SDK number in the build.prop but I haven't had time to find it in there. I do, however, have it installed on my tab (sans vibrate function) and it's one of the best multi-touch keyboards I've used.

Damn, John! Just saw your article on the keyboard. Here I am slaving hacking away at a keyboard and someone has all ready packaged it in a .zip.

can i delete it if i download without doing a factory reset

if i install this app it will replace the sense ui, right? and if i uninstall it, the sense UI will work as allways?!

Honestly thats a very great app.. but the widgets area missing like crazzy.. just installed it on mytouch 4g. Menu scrolls as fast as lightning.. very nice.. but whats my worry? Battery life. Is is going to chew it up??

installed ok on my G2. intrigued about the clock app shown

how do you get those volume controls on there? What app?

You can make a Gingerbread-type launcher/dock by messing with LauncherPro as well. People have posted the dock and icon images in the forums for people to create it with. Just fyi.

i liked this, but i'm too used to ADW. give it some docks and i'll be happy. :P

Hmm on my nexus one all i got was green keys at the bottom and all my widgets on my home page disappeared. No good uninstall. Ill wait for gingerbread. luckily ill get it before most...
