[UPDATE] And just like that, Twitter version 2.0 is now available in the Market for download. Let us know what you think!
When the official Twitter application for Android launched in late April of 2010, the general consensus was that the client just didn’t stack up. It certainly wasn’t as polished as its iPhone counterpart, and compared to other more matured Twitter apps for Android, it fell short. Despite multiple updates, the UI still hasn’t gotten any better. Other apps have continued to evolve and integrate new features, while Twitter for Android has just sat in the corner. However, there is still hope. If a video posted by Christopher Meinck from Everything Android is right, we are in for a big surprise.
Today, we get to take our first look at Twitter for Android version 2.0. It may be too soon to tell, but it appears that nearly every aspect of the app has been improved upon — something some of us have been waiting a long time for. Access to your timeline, mentions, and messages are all now easily accessible from anywhere in the app. Refreshing your timeline has undergone some small tweaks. Even the send tweet screen has been redesigned with an emphasis on speed.
There’s no word on when the update will hit the Market, but the app doesn’t look like it needs much more work. We’ll be sure to keep an eye out for any sort of announcement, or, ya know, leaked apk files. Don’t forget to voice your opinion in the comments below.
