Mugen Power Extended Battery Review [Galaxy S]

Mugen Power is a relatively new and emerging company that produces replacement batteries and extended batteries for most devices. If you’re the owner [and heavy user] of an Android powered device you’ve probably noticed it’s pretty easy to wear down the battery really quickly. Some specific devices really don’t have the best battery life, and that’s where extended batteries come into play.

The Samsung Fascinate with the stock battery has an impressive discharge time by itself. I got it to last nearly 100 straight hours with mostly light data usage and MMS. With medium usage 72 hours was possible, and with WiFi always on 1 full day wasn’t a challenge. But what if you’re an extremely heavy Android user like me? What if you’re constantly checking Facebook and Twitter, watching YouTube videos, navigating via GPS, gaming heavily, catching up on the latest Droiddog articles, browsing the web and more all day? Then you’re probably in the market for an extended battery for your device.

Today we’ll be taking a look at the MugenPower extended Lithium-Ion battety for the Samsung Galaxy S on Verizon, also knows as the Fascinate.

The stock battery for the Fascinate is 1500 mAh, and with this battery I got the above mentioned times. The extended battery comes in a pack with a battery cover that accomodates for the larger size. This extended battery has twice the capacity, coming in at 3200 mAh. The battery door that comes with this extended battery does thicken up the phone a bit. The Fascinate has a stock battery cover made of plastic with a graphite pattern on the back, and is a very thin phone. With the extended battery cover on the Fascinate is no longer a thin device, coming in at just under 0.5 inches thick [slightly thicker than the original DROID and DROID 2]. The battery is inserted the same way as the original and the extended plastic cover snaps on the back like the regular battery door. This extended one is all glossy on the back with no patterns.

So how’s the battery life?

To put it lightly: Extremely impressive. The Fascinate can now go days and days on end with pretty much any type of user. If you’re a light Android user you might be able to go a whole work week without charging your device! The heavy users among us can get away with 2 full days off the charger and have plenty of juice to spare.

  • Light usage: 120+ hours
  • Medium Usage: 3 full days
  • Heavy Usage: 2 full days

Overall this is an excellent battery. Proper care should still be taken to ensure that you get the most possible battery life out of your new hardware – Fully discharging the battery at least a month, not leaving your device on the charger for more than 24 hours, etc. And if you’re still looking for more tips on increasing battery life check out our video on maximizing battery life on your Android device.

My batter life is really great now I own a mugen 3800mah. My biggest problem was battery drain! I tried every fix possible! I changed kernels, roms, adjusted settings, got applications, nothing worked until I found mugen! Now I get about two days of one charge and I'm. Very happy !Mugen solved -my battery drain issues. Thanks mugen! I'm sticking with mugen ! I was šo happy I bought a second mugen! I won't use anything but mugen now. I truly believe in this product.

The battery on my android is full of crap and i really hate it but i love my phone..i have to take my charger every where i go because my battery dnt last a bit..

I have a samsung fascinate. With moderate usage I get 15 hours. I recently bought 2 3500 mah batteries on ebay.JUNK they had LESS CAPACITY than the OEM 1500 battery that came with the phone. This happened with 2 separate sellers on ebay.

You cant use this as a comparison. You have a larger battery with and extended back. So #1 The phone is super thick in comparison to any high end smartphone. #2 almost any phone with a battery that size would get amazing battery life. Sure depends on the use, and software.

If ONLY there were companies that would simply use STOCK firmwares D:

Battery life on my Epic 4g isn't so great. With some tweaks it lasts a day on average/low use. Needs a daily recharge. But then again, its either charging at my work or my home. Dropping the Juice Defender really helped too ;)
