Samsung’s Galaxy Tab line expands: 8.9 and 10.1-inch models go official

Yes it’s true, many an Android tablet manufacturer this year has come hard at the iPad and iPad 2. With Honeycomb on their side, the battle is becoming more balanced, and one company is out to prove just what they can do. Samsung has fully unveiled the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9-inch models that are incredibly impressive specs wise, with a price that is finally right on the money.

Coming in with dual-core processors and 2MP front-facing cameras, both new versions of the Galaxy Tab will not only be impressively light, but they’ll also be impressively thin. The exact thickness of the tablets will be .33-inches thick — for those of you keeping score at home, the iPad 2 is .34-inches thick. Other note worthy features on both include a 3MP rear-facing camera with LED flash, internal storage starting at 16GB and going from there, a microSD card slot, SIM slot, and a Samsung customized version of Honeycomb with TouchWiz 4.0.

Pricing on the two tablets may just be the most interesting aspect of everything announced. For WiFi only versions, you’re looking at $499/$599 for the 16/32GB 10.1-inch, and $469/$569 for the 16/32GB 8.9-inch.

Finally. One Android tablet that out-specs the latest iPad, even in thinness, but costs the same amount, and one that even though it sports a slightly smaller screen, undercuts Apple in price. Is this the change the industry has been waiting for?

Just look at that screen! It is huge! The TouchWiz is something that I can deal with, but I am so excited for this tablet! The 10.1 inch screen looks like it will make everything better. As soon as it comes out, I will definitely be buying one. After that the first thing that I will download will be the DISH Remote Access app. This app works with my 922 SlingLoaded receiver so that I can stream live TV and recorded shows. So as soon as I get this tablet, I will be streaming like crazy! As a DISH Network customer and employee, I know that the huge screen will do wonders with the DISH Remote Access app. I just hope that the wait won't be forever!

"and one that even though it sports a slightly smaller screen, undercuts Apple in price." slightly smaller screen, yet higher resolution!

*sigh* if i were a millionaire..

I hate the touchwiz. I love the stock honeycomb UI. I hate the touchwiz and its big huge widgets that cover the entire screen. To make matters worse, this just confirms that Samsung will yet again provide very slow updates to the galaxy tab series just like they do with the galaxy S smartphones. Samsung almost had me convinced but until someone finds a way to get rid of the gay touchwiz, I will stick with purchasing a Xoom.

Yah that is one thing I am concerned about. While I don't necessarily hate Touchwiz UI, I do hate the fact that my Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate is still running on Android 2.1 éclair.

Why do I have to wait until June. I need this now. The cheap blackberry playbook comes out next month while I have to wait for this. Noooooooooooooooo

i was soo happy and excitied till i saw customized version on honeycomb...DAMN IT SAMSUNG...u were this close to getting respect and you had to ruin it with touchwiz...FAIL!! UGH!!! >_<

I know this may sound weird, but I kind of like Touchwiz UI. I have a Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate, and Touchwiz UI has grown on me. I think it's simple to use and the colorful icons are rather cool. The only thing I hate is that the homescreen can have lagging issues from time to time.

why touchwiz??? xoom here or rooted b&n color nook

ARE YOU ******* KIDDING ME SAMSUNG!!! I WAS WAITING FOR THIS TABLET AND NOW YOUVE GOT TO PUT TOUCHWIZ GAY.0 ON IT?? WE. DONT. LIKE. TOUCHWIZ. GET THAT THROUGH YOUR HEAD!! WE ALL LOVE STOCK HONEYCOMB! Rant over. man i was really saving up and getting my hopes up for this tablet, whatever. Xoom it is. -_-

There is always the toshiba tablet

Whats that?? can i get a link pls :)

Unforunately the Toshiba Tablet packs a small battery.. something like 3000 mAh or 4000, in comparison to the Galaxy Tabs 8.9/10.1 ~6000 I imagine it barely surviving a few hours powering a 10.1 inch screen..

ohhh :/ man i want a release date for this galaxy tab 10.1 ill just root it and find a way to remove the touchmen
