Every now and then, a US carrier will think outside the box when it comes to promoting their goods and services. Quite frequently, by using crazy commercials or interesting giveaways, it works out very well. Then there’s times when it just doesn’t.
Sprint has posted an article in their “newsroom” page that boasts about country singer Lauren Rainey’s new video for her song Crazy In Love, and how it was shot entirely on an HTC Evo 4G. As cool as this is, and as decent as the video quality may be, the production quality is terrible. The video is very shaky and blurry at times; something Sprint shouldn’t want to show off as a representation of the Evo’s camera quality. Not to mention editing on the video was obviously very minimal.
I know it sounds like I’m being overly critical, but just take a look at the first YouTube search result when I searched for “music video shot with an iphone 4.” There’s no denying the drastic differences between the two, which you can find below. Sure there’s a lot of editing in the iPhone video, but they can still say it was filmed entirely on an iPhone 4, the same thing Sprint can say about their Evo video.
What do you guys think, good enough to promote, or should Sprint have just left it alone?
