Thanks to Google (With some help from XDA), users who are looking to flash Android 2.3.4 to their Nexus S, but don’t want to wait for it to arrive OTA, can now do so.
There are some requirements for the newly posted update file including your model number, and current software. You must be using a Nexus S i9020T (the AWS version), and you must be on software version GRI40. Should you fit the criteria, then you simply have to rename the file you download to “update.zip” — be careful you don’t name it “update.zip.zip” — put it on the root of your SD card, reboot into recovery, and enjoy! If your bootloader is unlocked, you should also be able to flash the SU binary in recovery after the update completes and you will have root access.
