Acer Chromebook: Chrome on the low

If you’re looking to plunk down a sizable chunk of change to convert your laptop-lifestyle into a Chromebook one, then the Samsung Series 5 Chromebooks are the way to go. If you’re trying to save a little money, as well as add a little more portability, then Acer has you covered.

Announced alongside the Samsung Chromebook today, Acer has come out with a Chromebook of their own at a very reasonable price. Only listed in black right now, Acer’s Chromebook comes in two flavors: WiFi and 3G. The base-price for the WiFi Acer Chromebook is only $349, and includes the following:

11.6″ HD Widescreen CineCrystalTM LED-backlit LCD
2.95 lbs. | 1.34 kg.
6 hours of continuous usage 1
Intel® AtomTM Dual-Core Processor
Built in dual-band Wi-Fi
HD Webcam with noise cancelling microphone
High-Definition Audio Support
2 USB 2.0 ports
4-in-1 memory card slot
HDMI port
Fullsize Chrome keyboard
Oversize fully-clickable trackpad

When pitted against similarly priced machines, the Acer Chromebook outclasses in nearly every category. At such a low price, and with availability through Amazon and Best Buy, it’ll be interesting to see how Acer’s selection sells compared to the competition. Look for the Acer Chromebook to go on sale starting June 15th.
