Living in the states, we tend to take our proximity to Google HQ for granted. Americans regularly get exclusives on new features in Google products, often experiencing them weeks or months ahead of users in other lands.
Today, Google announced that users of their Maps application and mobile site in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Spain and Switzerland will soon have access to live traffic congestion color coding and alternative routes (for bypassing lock-ups). Highways, freeways, and larger city streets will be monitored. Maps shows traffic info updated in the previous five to ten minutes. Also, UK users will have better detail when viewing streets.
The roll out will occur automatically and includes Android, iOS, and mobile site versions of Maps.
