All of this excitement over Android getting ported to the HP TouchPad has gotten a little out of hand, but considering the low, low price for the webOS-powered tablet, it’s not too surprising. After the initial fire sale from HP, people clamoring to get their hands on a TouchPad seem wholly interested in making sure that they get a nice tablet to tinker with. For one lucky customer, HP reportedly sent him a TouchPad that runs Android 2.2 out of the box. Yes, that’s right. HP supposedly sent this person an HP TouchPad that was running Android 2.2 out of the box. And of course, putting it up on eBay is the logical next step.
Now, this isn’t impossible, but highly unlikely. Sure, we can imagine that some folks at HP, especially within the ranks of those who had been in charge of webOS development, probably had some fun on some units, but to have it actually ship out? That seems strange, to say the least. But, considering how new the Android development process is for the TouchPad, it may be just as unlikely that the eBay user actually ported it over, too. So, at this point, it’s anyone’s guess how Android really got on the TouchPad. Either way, it’s there, and it’s up for sale on eBay. At the time of publication, the last bid for the TouchPad running Android 2.2 put the total up to $710. For those keeping track, there are still two days left in the bidding, so we should expect to see this one get pretty pricey. Is anyone planning on putting a bid up for it?
