Samsung Galaxy S II isn’t coming to Verizon

If you’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of the Samsung Galaxy S II variant for Verizon Wireless, then your wait is over. Unfortunately, it isn’t good news. Verizon has confirmed with The Wall Street Journal that they will not be launching the Galaxy S II for their network. While Samsung is still set to unveil the Galaxy S II variants for the US during their event on August 29th, it looks like Verizon is keeping their airwaves out of the running.

Citing their “extensive portfolio, Verizon won’t be launching the Galaxy S II. “We have an extensive portfolio that offers customers a great variety of devices, including the Samsung Droid Charge,” said Brenda Raney, a spokeswoman for Verizon Wireless. It would seem that Verizon’s position on Android, along with the devices that are coming down the pipe, means that they don’t believe the Galaxy S II variant has a place on their shelves. Interesting, though, to compare the DROID Charge to the Galaxy S II, though, when most people wouldn’t consider that much of a comparison.

It’s definitely in the top 5 of their dumbest decisions!  It was Samsungs legal team that issued the cease and desist not VZW.  As for the Nexus Prime being "Practically" confirmed, I won’t believe it until I see it. VZW confirmed they would carry the first Nexus and then pulled the plug.  All the rumors floating around had the S2 practically confirmed and we see how that went.

Me thinks this might have apple written all over it. To bad but, I am just not sure I can risk jumping on the bionic bandwagon, witch to me given there history is doomed waiting for updates to fix bugs in the halfbacked and rushed for release hardware, time to end this 4 year love afair

really, all the money they've been dumping on the bionic it's not a surprise. I was speculating that the GSII might not come with 4G to keep it from being direct competition to the bionic but VZW goes one better and pulls the rug out all together! my contract expires in Nov. (unltd. no tier plan or not,) I'm going to Sprint, pay less and take my chances!

Darn......... JK JK JK!

It sucks, guess I'll be getting the Bionic then (pentile screen be dammed!). I wonder if it was because of lack of LTE? None of the rumors I saw seemed to indicate that the S2 would have it. Infact, the slim form-factor seems to preclude the massive (relatively) first generation LTE chipset.

yet ANOTHER reason to LEAVE VZW!!! I am really tired of their crap and I think this is the nail in their coffin for me... bye bye verizon...CAN U HEA ME NOW MOTHERF' ERS?

Mentioning the Charge in the same category as the S2 is laughable at best.   Whoever at Verizon made this decision should be FIRED! Anybody that supported this decision should be fired also! This is just another example of the incompetency at the upper levels of Verizon. The Bionic (if it ever comes out) will be Verizon’s closest competitor to the S2 and it does not come close enough! If Verizon thinks they can push the Bionic or the iPhone 5 off on me they are sorely mistaken. I have been patiently waiting for the S2 to replace my Piece of crap Omnia2. I have been with Verizon since it was Bell Atlantic and I’m just one customer that I’m sure they don’t give a crap about.  This will be the final straw for me. Time to switch to another carrier!

Is Verizon protecting their "Droid" trademark? After the Bing crap on the Fascinate, did Samsung dig in their heels and refuse to bloatware and Bing requirements placed on it by VZW? Is VZW simply trying to keep two big players from hitting the market at same time confusing customers with iPhone  coming a few weeks later? The Bionic better be a hell of a phone! My first gen. Droid is killing me right now!

"Is Verizon protecting their "Droid" trademark?" How so? Plenty of Android phones on Verizon w/o the Droid TM... "After the Bing crap on the Fascinate, did Samsung dig in their heels and refuse to bloatware and Bing requirements placed on it by VZW?" Again, how so? Only some of the Verizon Android phones are Bing-enabled (i.e. broken). My wife's Thunderbolt doesn't have Bing by default. I'm hoping the Bionic doesn't have Bing by default. "Is VZW simply trying to keep two big players from hitting the market at same time confusing customers with iPhone  coming a few weeks later?" This is actually more probable. (And, hey, actually jives with the public reason in their press release.) "The Bionic better be a hell of a phone! My first gen. Droid is killing me right now!" I hear you. I already have a couple Amizon Freeby of the day apps that I "purchased" on their free day, but never installed because they wouldn't fit in my Droid1. I'm hoping I'll still have access to them on a new phone. My (last) NE2 activates today. Probably going to pick up a Bionic on release day (hopefully Sept. 8).

The only phone Verizon actually has that matches it right now is the bionic which still isn't out.

What about the Nexus Prime?

Is there a guaranteed fact that they'll be getting that? They have passed on the last 2.

looks like verizon is giving making room for the Iphone 5, one less android to raise the iphone sales.

son of a B****!!!

This has to be one of if not the dumbest decision Verizon has ever made!
