There are all sorts of rumors and leaks going around about Ice Cream Sandwich, but when Eric Schmidt talks about it, you generally want to keep your ears open. That’s what we’ve got now, with Schmidt speaking with Salesforce.com at their Dreamforce conference. The man does the obligatory history of Android, but then drops a not-so-subtle hint about Android’s next iteration.
As Eric Schmidt puts it: “We have a new operating system, internally known as Ice Cream Sandwich for some reason, which is being released in October/November, which everyone’s really excited about.”
While it’s not a definitive date, it’s better than “quarter four” of 2011. It would certainly be a nice holiday treat for most folks to get their hands on the first Ice Cream Sandwich-powered device right before the Christmas month. We’ll have to wait and see just when the device(s) will launch, but it shouldn’t be too long from now before we start to see some concrete information makes its way onto the Internet.
