Motorola Spyder breaks cover, offers up angled edges and qHD Super AMOLED display

The Spyder name doesn’t want to go away, apparently. Actually, it looks like we’re playing a bit of the name game with this particular device. While the press image that you see above is certainly the same phone that we saw leaked just over a month ago, there seems to be some speculation going around about the name. While it’s still apparently believed that the “Spyder” name is indeed an internal codename, what the handset from Motorola will launch as is still unknown.

As of right now, it looks like Motorola could be bringing back a name from yesteryear. A name that, while archaic by today’s standard, was definitely the very definition of mobile phones in its hay day. That name? The RAZR. That’s right. It looks like the latest DROID-branded device from Motorola could be known as the DROID RAZR. While there seems to be some strange speculation about where this particular device will land, carrier wise, the DROID name would seem to give it away. The DROID RAZR was also going around as the DROID HD, and there’s still a chance it could hit the carrier with that particular title.

But let’s talk about rumored specifications, shall we? According to a trusted source speaking with Thisismynext…, the DROID RAZR/HD may feature a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, an 8MP camera with 1080p HD video capture ’round back, an “HD” front-facing shooter, and a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED touchscreen display, with a resolution of 960×540. There will be 1GB of RAM, and the device will have Webtop functionality, like the ATRIX 4G and DROID Bionic before it. Interestingly enough, the device will also reportedly feature Gorilla Glass, as well as a Kevlar casing. Strange, that latter part, but hey — whatever Motorola thinks is best.

There’s no word on a release date quite yet, but word has it that the device in question will land in time for the holidays. Probably somewhere around the same time as the HTC Vigor, just to spice things up.
